gems = weapon upgrades, its sequential so refined, great, elite, superior, outstanding, godlike, otherworldly has to be in order and each tier has level reqs

the niche stuff comes later, but you can see the drop tables of each monster by clicking the brown bag near their picture

craftings going to be your way to starter leathers, you can buy a bow or cross bow from the local shop, and then monsters of each tier drop boots/gloves that are general stat sticks
